Das Sonderpostwertzeichen aus der Reihe „Dienst am Nächsten“ hat einen Wert von 1,44 Euro und zeigt in stilisierter Form zwei Rettungsschwimmer der DLRG bei der Sicherung eines Strandes. Der Kampf gegen das Ertrinken ist seit ihrer Gründung 1913 die zentrale Aufgabe der mittlerweile weltweit größten privaten Wasserrettungsorganisation. Dabei können die Lebensretter eine erfolgreiche Bilanz ihrer bisherigen Arbeit ziehen – so sanken die Ertrinkungszahlen im Verlauf der Jahrzehnte um knapp 90 Prozent auf rund 600 im Jahr 2002. DLRG Präsident Dr. Klaus Wilkens zeigte sich in seiner Rede anlässlich der Übergabe daher auch erfreut, dass die Marke zum 90. Geburtstag der DLRG erscheint. „Dass heute eine neue DLRG-Briefmarke vorgestellt wird, ist ein Zeichen der Anerkennung für den sozialen Einsatz der DLRG“, so der DLRG Präsident. Allerdings ergänzte Wilkens, dass neben der Anerkennung auch die direkte oder indirekte finanzielle Unterstützung notwendig sei, um die Qualität der DLRG-Arbeit zu erhalten. Wilkens weiter: „Dabei wird in Zukunft die Nachwuchsförderung und Ausbildung junger ehrenamtlicher Mitarbeiter eine noch größere Bedeutung erhalten, um den hohen Bedarf an qualifiziertem Personal für Aufklärung, Ausbildung und Einsatz befriedigen zu können.“ Quelle: DLRG |
